Nemanja Matic reportedly told Chelsea to decide his future in the next 48 hours as the player prefers a move to Manchester United.
Chelsea bought Tiemoue Bakayoko from Monaco and Matic now wants to quit Stamford Bridge, especially after Antonio Conte excluded him for the pre-season tour as Nemanja stayed behind with Diego Costa. The Blues are reluctant to sell the midfielder to title rivals Man United, and they would like to send him to Juventus instead, but the former Benfica man clearly favorites the Red Devils over the Italians.
Matic is desperate for a reunion with Jose Mourinho, who coached him at Chelsea, while the Portuguese tactician is also keen to bring him to Old Trafford this summer. Mourinho urges United to step up the chase for the Serbian player, and the Red Devils would offer him £150,000 a week salary, while Juventus would give him £125,000 per week.
The 28-year-old holding midfielder played a pivotal role in Chelsea’s title-winning season, and the prospect of pairing him with Paul Pogba in the middle of the park is exciting to Mourinho. With Ander Herrera’s new contract on the horizon, United could end up with three excellent central midfielders, something that Mourinho would be pleased to see.
However, the move to Old Trafford will not be as smooth despite Matic’s message to Chelsea hierarchy to let him go. On the other hand, Chelsea’s decision to sell him abroad is completely understandable as they don’t want to strengthen the arch rivals and title contenders. It remains to be seen what the Blues will decide in 48 hours and where will Matic land in the end.
