20 goals in 14 games, £444m bid mooted: Man Utd rival Real Madrid interest in 25-year-old

According to Le 10 Sport, Manchester United are lining up a world record bid for Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar this month, reports the Mirror.

Despite the Brazilian international having only just joined PSG from Barcelona for £198m in the summer, reports suggest Jose Mourinho’s side are considering a £444m bid to land the 25-year-old.

Real Madrid are also believed to be keen on Neymar, but it’s unknown how much they’d be willing to spend to bring him back to Spain – not to mention PSG’s reticence to let a world class player to leave just six months after they signed him.

Neymar has been in fantastic form at the Parc des Princes this season too, scoring and creating 20 goals in 14 Ligue 1 games. PSG find themselves top of the table, eight points clear of second-placed AS Monaco with a game in hand.

The runaway leaders have been formidable in the Champions League this season too, topping Group B with 15 points from a possible 18.  Neymar has contributed nine goals in the competition already, forming a potent attack alongside Kylian Mbappe and Edinson Cavani.

It’s unlikely he will be seeking an exit so soon from Paris Saint-Germain regardless of how much money suitors are willing to spend, so it’s hard to see this rumour gaining much momentum in the coming weeks.

Real Madrid’s interest in Neymar is genuine, and him playing in Ligue 1 boosts their hopes of signing him much more than when he was at fierce rivals Barcelona, but the dust may have to settle before an approach will be taken seriously.
