Bailly and Martial start, 3-4-1-2: This Man United XI will give a hard time to Chelsea

Manchester United will look to continue their recent winning momentum when they face-off against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday. Jose Mourinho’s men clinched a 1-0 triumph over Tottenham Hotspur in the previous outing, and this weekend’s game will be equally important with the club seeking to maintain or perhaps reduce the five-point gap over leaders Manchester City.

Formation: 3-4-1-2

Lineup:

David de Gea is having another standout season with United with eight clean sheets in 10 appearances. The Spain international will definitely start in goal.

Phil Jones, Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling featured in a three-man backline versus Spurs last weekend, and Mourinho could stick with the trio as he looks to neutralise the opposition strengths. Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young played no part in the midweek Champions League game, and they will be afresh to feature in the right and left wing-back positions respectively.

Michael Carrick has returned to first-team training after his mystery illness, but the veteran is likely to play second fiddle to Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic, who are certain to start in the centre of the park. Matic has made a huge contribution to United’s early progress, and he will want to put in a strong performance against his ex-employers.

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford have not been played together in the Premier League to date, but we are going for an ambitious pick with Rashford in the number 10 while Martial starts alongside Romelu Lukaku upfront. Lukaku failed to score for United in the month of October, but he will surely have his eye on getting on the scoresheet versus his ex-club.
