Confirmed: Two key Manchester United players out of Brighton clash

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that both Phil Jones and Eric Bailly have been ruled out for Saturday’s Premier League clash against Brighton & Hove Albion.

Earlier this week, the Portuguese tactician revealed that Bailly could make his comeback for the Seagulls game, but the Ivorian’s preparation appears to have not gone by the plan.

In the lead-up to the weekend game, Mourinho told MUTV: “They are out [Jones and Rojo]. But we are okay because we have [Chris] Smalling, [Marcos] Rojo and [Victor] Lindelof.”

Meanwhile, Mourinho confirmed that Zlatan Ibrahimovic will get some playing time off the substitutes bench having played a similar cameo against Newcastle United and most recently Basel.

He added: “I prefer him on the pitch than off the pitch. But he needs time. We managed to give him 15/20 minutes in both matches, he needs more of that, so hopefully, tomorrow, we play him again.”

Marcos Rojo played the full 90 minutes during the 1-0 loss to Swiss giants Basel in the Champions League, and Mourinho appeared to hint that the Argentine could start alongside Smalling at the heart of the backline.

Manchester United are presently trailing Manchester City by eight points, and they cannot expect another setback this month considering tough fixtures against Arsenal and Manchester City scheduled in December.
