Contact made – Man Utd very interested in signing £40million player

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Manchester United have been linked with Dayot Upamecano (France Football) for some time and now, his RB Leipzig central defensive partner, Ibrahima Konate is also on the radar of the Red Devils.

According to an exclusive story covered by Le10Sport, Man Utd are very interested in signing the 20-year-old defender from the Bundesliga side.

Transfer: Man United have prioritised signing of £60million playmaker – Report

The famous French outlet have revealed that the Red Devils have made contact with the player’s representatives to inquire about information about his current situation.

In his debut season in Germany, the young center half helped Leipzig, who had the best defensive record, qualify for the Champion League. In 27 starts, he helped his team keep 11 clean sheets in the league.

Unfortunately, in the 2019-20 campaign, the £40million player (Marca) has spent a lot of time out injured because of a major muscle injury.

The 6 ft 3 defender is rated very high in the Bundesliga and he is compared to Virgil van Dijk, the Liverpool superstar who was named UEFA’s best player last year and is arguably the best defender in the world. Even world class center forward Robert Lewandowski rates Konate highly.

At Old Trafford, Solskjaer largely improved the defense by signing Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka last summer. In the central defense, apart from Maguire, even Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof have proved to be solid. In the back-up, we do have Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe.

Smalling is currently palying on loan for Roma and even if the English defender is sold in the summer, Man Utd have ample quality and depth in the central defense for next season.

In such a scenario, our Norwegian boss should reinforce other key departments because there is no real need to sign another center back in the form of Ibrahima Konate. What do you think?
