‘Top, cream of the crop’, Jose Mourinho praises ‘amazing’ Chelsea star vs Manchester United

Willian Chelsea

Jose Mourinho has hailed the performance of Chelsea attacker Willian following Manchester United’s 2-1 win over the Blues on Sunday. The Portuguese tactician lured the forward from Spurs grasp for Chelsea back in the summer of 2013, and he has since tried to sign him for United.

Speaking to ESPN Brasil, Mourinho was full of praise for his former player, who opened the scoring with a brilliant counter-attack which started from the edge of his own box, he said: “Do you want to talk about Willian? Top, cream of the crop, he’s amazing. In his national team there’s no bad players. The Brazil manager is really good with huge club experience. You guys will do great things in Russia [at the World Cup].”

While most of the focus was on Eden Hazard, Willian stood out from the opposition ranks as he buzzed around the field with a sense of freedom. The Brazilian also found himself swerving around challenges, but it was more of a one-man show which was not sufficient to produce a positive result for the team.

Regardless of that, it was a positive result for United, who retained their second spot from Liverpool over the weekend, and the supporters would want to see more of the intent shown during the backend of the Chelsea game, where Jesse Lingard found the winner off a brilliant cross from Romelu Lukaku.
