New Manchester United signing validly criticised by Liverpool legend

Liverpool icon Steve Nicol has stated that he has not been left completely convinced with new Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof.

Manchester United splashed around £30million to acquire the services of Victor Lindelof from Benfica this summer and many feel that the Red Devils have made an astute acquisition in the Swedish international, considering his relatively young age as well as the performances he has displayed in Portugal over the past few years.

However, Lindelof has not quite covered himself in glory since joining United as his performances in the Red Devils’ pre-season tour of the United States have not been very impressive, with the 23-year-old making glaring errors in the matches against LA Galaxy and Real Madrid.

Now Liverpool icon Steve Nicol has gone on to give his thoughts regarding Lindelof and while the 55-year-old is ready to give the Manchester United man the benefit of the doubt, he is concerned with the youngster’s poor timing in the tackle.

Speaking to ESPN FC, Nicol said, “I’m going to use the ‘it’s only pre-season’ line for Lindelof. He has made some mistakes. The one against Real Madrid would be the mistake that would concern me.

“It’s one thing not to be up to speed in pre-season because that’s what it is for. What concerns me is that Lindelof didn’t recognise he was so late on the tackle that gave the penalty away. It would be the one concern I’d have.”
