Manchester United are constantly linked with top defenders mainly because their current defensive players have leaked a lot of goals this season.
On 5th January, The Sun exclusively reported that interim boss Solskjaer is set to hold talks with club chief Ed Woodward over the signing of Fiorentina star Nikola Milenkovic.
More recently, Italian outlet La Nazione (Press image provided at the bottom of the post) have claimed that Man United prepare to sign the highly rated Serbian international by offering midfielder Andreas Pereira to the Florence based club.
Pereira is a talented and versatile midfielder but he has never got a fair chance at Old Trafford. This season, so far, the Brazilian international has only started four games in all competitions.
He did make his senior international debut for Brazil back in September 2018 but if he wants to continue playing for the Selecao, then he must play regularly at club level.
In all fairness, the 23-year-old needs to move away from United for regular first team football.
On the other hand, the Red Devils desperately need a top defender and they do have enough quality and depth in their central midfield, so, losing Pereira should not hurt, especially if a quality center half like Milenkovic could be lured.
The former Partizan defender’s current deal with Fiorentina will expire in 2022 and he is valued at £50million (The Daily Mail). However, Pereira’s current contract with United will expire in less than 6 months. So, United could get at least some discount on the deal if they sell the Samba starlet to the Serie A side this month.
We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the comings weeks.
