Manchester United have been linked with a French playbreaker in the form of Boubakary Soumare in the past few weeks and the latest reports are intriguing.
Last month, La Voix Du Nord reported that the Red Devils and several other clubs have held talks to hire the services of the Lille star, who is valued at 60 million euros (£51million), in the January transfer window.
More recently, Sky Sports have claimed that the likes of Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Valencia are chasing the signature of the defensive midfielder, who is expected to leave this month and his departure could be secured in the next week or so.
Even after splashing a lot of cash to lure the English duo to strengthen the defense in the summer transfer window, Man Utd have been fragile at the back. One of the reasons behind that is they do not have a solid midfield playbreaker.
Nemanja Matic is the club’s first choice holding midfield star. The Serbian international has missed majority of this season’s fixtures due to injury and in all fairness, the veteran, who will turn 32 this year, is past his best and should be replaced.
United have already conceded 25 goals in 21 Premier League games this term and have kept just one clean sheet in the last 16 PL fixtures. Last night, the Red Devils were humiliated by Manchester City at Old Trafford and now, Solskjaer’s men have a mountain to climb in the second leg at the Etihad to qualify for the Carabao Cup final.
So far, Soumare has started 13 Ligue 1 games this term and help his club keep 5 clean sheets. Lille are currently 4th in the table after 19 fixtures.
Sky Sports have pointed out that he is a box-to-box midfielder in the mould of Paul Pogba but the youngster has not provided any assist in his club career so far and has only found the net just once in 62 first team appearances for Lille.
In your view, should Man Utd move in to secure the signing of Boubakary Soumare this month?
