Man Utd have an edge, make contact to sign £148,000-a-week midfielder

Manchester United let Fellaini and Herrera leave in the past two transfer windows and did not even replace them in the summer transfer window.

With Paul Pogba mostly on the treatment table in the current campaign, United have clearly lacked quality in the center of the park and therefore, the department must be reinforced in January.

If reports in the media are anything to by then the Red Devils are linked with a proven quality midfielder in the form of Arturo Vidal.

Transfer: Manchester United confident £85million star prefers Old Trafford move

According to FC Inter News, Man Utd are looking to lure a high profile midfielder in the New year and they have contacted the Chilean international’s manager.

The Italian source have named Inter Milan as a potential suitor as well but United have an edge. It is stated that Ed Woodward’s good relations with agent Fernando Felicevich could facilitate the transfer of the Barcelona star.

Vidal left Bayern Munich to sign for the Catalan giants last year and was a key member of the squad that won the La Liga title under Valverde. The £148,000-a-week midfielder (Sport) featured in 33 league games (22 starts) and directly contributed in 10 goals (3 goals and 7 assists).

However, this season, the South American has mainly been a bench warmer since the arrival of Frenkie De Jong and therefore, it is not surprising that he wants to leave the Spanish champions, who want around 15 million euros from his departure (FC Inter News).

Vidal is a versatile talent, who can effectively play in multiple midfield positions and over the years, he has won top prizes in Germany and Italy. The Chilean has played 113 times for the senior international team and has won 2 Copa America titles (2015-2016).

So, he has the quality and experience to improve the midfield at Man Utd but it must be remembered that he will turn 33 next year and in my view, signing him would be a short term fix.

In your view, should Man Utd bid to sign Arturo Vidal in January?
