Transfer news: Jose Mourinho delivers key update on possible new signings

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has said that he has ‘no idea’ whether the club will complete more signings before the transfer window shuts next month.

The Portuguese manager oversaw some quick transfer business last month with right-back Diogo Dalot and midfielder Fred arriving at Old Trafford and this was soon followed by the Bosman signing of veteran goalkeeper Lee Grant.

However, since then, the club have gone through pretty much a dry period where the supporters have become worried and Mourinho has now highlighted that he does not know if there could be further signings before the transfer deadline.

Speaking ahead of the pre-season opener versus Club America, he said: “Signings? I have no idea. I’m not going to lie to you. I’m not going to say somebody is coming, nobody is coming. I really don’t know.”

Being the club manager, Mourinho should have some clue regarding the proceedings and his recent statement does not present much joy heading into the final weeks of the ongoing transfer window.

Nevertheless, the supporters can remain optimistic of a couple of big-money signings before the deadline or else Mourinho’s men may find it difficult to close the gap on league holders Manchester City next term.

Manchester United begin their pre-season tour of the United States with a friendly against Club America at the University of Phoenix Stadium on Thursday night.
