Manchester United desperately need a leader in their defense and Ajax star Matthijs de Ligt has been in the lime light.
According to an exclusive report covered by The Daily Star, Man Utd were willing to agree a deal worth £65million (£250,000-a-week, five year deal) to sign the Dutch international.
However, the British outlet have claimed that the teenage center half has made his decision and he has told the Red Devils that he does not want to move to Old Trafford.
De Ligt is just 19, still, he is already regarded as one of the best central defenders in the world.
He has been immense for Ajax, who are currently leading the Eredivisie table and are favorites to reach the Champions League final tonight.
It is not surprising to see a top player reject Manchester United knowing that the team will not take part in the Europe’s elite competition next season.
However, as per The Daily Star, De Ligt opted to turn Man United down even before the club’s failure to secure a place in the Premier League’s top four. It is mentioned that he favors a move to Barca or Real Madrid.
His current Ajax team-mate, Frenkie de Jong, will be playing for Barcelona next season, so it will not be shocking if De Ligt opts to move to the Nou Camp as well.
Nevertheless, as far as United are concerned, Solskjaer might find it hard to lure a world class CB without Champions League football, moreover, he will likely have to spend a mammoth amount to secure the signing.
In your view, who should United sign to strengthen their central defense?
