Mourinho confirms forward will start for Manchester United this season

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho confirmed Anthony Martial will start for the club next season, along with Juan Mata and Alexis Sanchez.

The French forward, who didn’t make Didier Deschamps’ squad for this summer’s World Cup, has been on the periphery in the last 12 months, racking up just 18 Premier League starts in 2017/18.

Fans would be very upset if he left due to his ability and potential, but it appears he’ll instead have a lead role in attack.

After Alexis Sanchez was denied a Visa to join United’s pre-season tour, Mourinho said: “It is really bad, really sad, not good for him, it’s not good for me, not good for the team, not good for the organisation for the International Cup, not good for anyone.

“It will be important for us to work with (Juan) Mata, Alexis, Martial which we think will be the players to have in attack for the start of the season. No (Romelu) Lukaku, no (Jesse) Lingard, no (Marcus) Rashford, so if Alexis isn’t working with us for 10/15 days it will be very bad.

Martial has a big chance to prove his worth to Mourinho, or he could seal his fate if he underperforms. The 22-year-old, who joined from AS Monaco in 2015, scored and created 14 league games last season but still finds his place up for grabs.
