Mourinho Wants More Signings, Manager Reveals His Future Transfer Plans

Jose Mourinho has revealed that he may require another year to put the finishing touches to his Manchester United squad. The Red Devils splashed over £140m on the likes of Victor Lindelof, Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic this summer and this has paid dividends with United making a perfect start to the league campaign.

The Portuguese coach had the need for a fourth summer signing before last week’s transfer deadline, but interest in the likes of Ivan Perisic, Gareth Bale and Danny Rose came to no avail. The Red Devils have bagged nine points from their opening three matches with 10 goals scored and none conceded but Mourinho admits he may require further signings in 10 months’ time.

He told The Times“I have said three [summer] transfer windows is what I need to have the team I want to have — the team [that] I think can bring Manchester United to the top of English football and to close the gap to the top of European football again — and I still think we need that third transfer window, but I’m not going to wait for the third transfer window to try to reach it.”

Nevertheless, United have looked very impressive in the new Premier League season, and Mourinho will be hoping to maintain the club’s winning streak to extend the gap over their close rivals. Manchester Cty and Liverpool face off against each other in Saturday’s early kick-off, and this could potentially help United increase their two-point lead up top if they clinch a win at Stoke City.
