Report – Man Utd have offered over £61.7million terms to sign star

Pochettino Solskjaer

Manchester United and Barcelona are heavily linked with Dutch international Matthijs de Ligt and as per latest reports going on in the media, it seems that the Red Devils have the upper hand at the moment.

According to Sport, Man United offered a deal worth (£61.7million) 70 million euros (five year deal with annual wages of 14 million euros) to the Ajax starlet but he opted to reject the proposal. Now, the Red Devils have made another offer by significantly improving the terms and hope that the signing can be secured.

The Spanish outlet have mentioned that if De Ligt opts to reject Man Utd’s offer again then the PL giants would end their interest in luring him.

Transfer: Man Utd close to agreeing fee to get signing done – Terms agreed

Today, Sport have come up with another story and the headline states ‘De Ligt moves away from Barca’. It is mentioned that the Catalan club do not really want to get into a bidding war and have not matched the figures offered by others (Man United are the only other club stated in their article).

So, it will be fair to say that the latest developments seem positive for the Old Trafford club.

Opinion:

In all fairness, Barcelona offer a much better sporting proposal as compared to Man United.

At the Nou Camp, De Ligt will have the chance to play alongside his compatriot Frenkie De Jong and Argentine superstar Lionel Messi. On the other hand, the Spanish giants should be considered favorites to win the league title again and they will take part in the Champions League next season as well.

As far as United are concerned, they might be able to offer him a much better financial proposal but Solskjaer’s team is average at the moment and I do not think that they will be able compete for the PL title in the next campaign.

Moreover, the Red Devils will not be taking part in the Europe’s elite competition as well and instead, they will feature in the Europa League.

Nevertheless, United were horrible at the back and regularly leaked goals in the recently concluded campaign, hence, they desperately need a leader like De Ligt in their back-line to solve the defensive conundrum.

Will he eventually end up moving to Old Trafford? Only time will tell.
