Man Utd prepared to agree £68.8million deal to get signing done, only structure is an issue

Manchester United held their first training session for the new season yesterday, so, the Erik ten Hag era has officially started but as yet, the club have not secured a single key signing.

The Dutch manager needs major reinforcements this summer and the priority target is Frenkie de Jong.

According to The Athletic, talks to sign the Netherlands midfielder are progressing positively and the deal to could reach 80 million euros, which is the asking price set by Barcelona.

Similarly, Sport claim that Man Utd are ready to initiate their final push to get the signing done and they are prepared to agree a deal worth £68.8million.

However, the Spanish news source have mentioned that the structure of the deal is going to be an issue. The Old Trafford club are willing to offer 60 million euros in cash and the remaining 20 million euros in add-ons.

On the other hand, Barcelona are demanding a fixed payment of 80 million euros (£68.8million) without any bonuses/variables so that they can immediately reinforce the squad with the funds.

It is stated that the Catalan club are targeting players like Bernardo Silva and Carlos Soler to improve the squad for next season.

Next month, Man United will travel to Bangkok to kick start their pre-season campaign against arch-rivals Liverpool.

If Ten Hag really wants to build the team around De Jong, then Red Devils must get the signing done swiftly so that the player can join the squad on the tour.
