Manchester United set to reward fresh contract to 24-goal striker

Manchester United have reportedly planned to offer an improved contract to Marcus Rashford when he celebrates his 20th birthday at the end of the month. The England international has been in fine form for the Red Devils this term, contributing five goals and four assists across all competitions.

According to The Sun, the 19-year-old is set to earn a significant pay rise on his current £50,000-a-week salary following his impressive contribution for club and country over the past year.

Jose Mourinho was initially reluctant to throw big wages on Rashford’s head, but his form has warranted the need to discuss an improved deal. Both the club and player are yet to open up contract talks, but The Sun suggests that an agreement could be finalised by the end of October.

Rashford has been a regular on the left wing this season, and his showing has kept Anthony Martial on the bench, although the Frenchman has impressed equally with the limited game-time.

Martial was recently named the club’s Player of the Month for September, and Rashford will have to stay grounded in order to maintain a regular starting spot in the coming months.

Rashford has notched 24 goals in 82 outings for Manchester United since making his debut in a Europa League tie against Midtjylland in February 2016. He has also scored two goals in 12 caps for England.
