Manchester United supporters were disappointed with the performance of Juan Mata during Sunday’s shock Premier League defeat at the hands of West Bromwich Albion.
Juan Mata has linked up well with Alexis Sanchez since the latter’s arrival at Old Trafford, but the Spaniard could not make the most of his start against the bottom club.
Whilst he was not entirely at fault for the club’s lean showing, the fans undoubtedly wanted to see more from the attacker, who has had good success against deep-plying defences.
Juan Mata embarrassing today, imagine if Martial put in that performance, we’d never see him again

Juan Mata was hiding among the West Brom players, he was so bad

Disgraceful performance how Mata played a full 90 minutes I will never understand

There where alot of bad performances in that game but that has to be juan mata’s worst performance in a utd shirt. Game was crying out for width. Martial should have started #MUFCWBA

Same old story from United. Too static, Mata & Sanchez drifting inside too much. Young & Valencia don't offer any real threat going forward. If we want to win the league next year we need new FBs desperately.

Mata, of late, has been playing in a free role, and this has seemingly reduced the threat on the right flank with Antonio Valencia not being able to make overlapping runs on a regular basis.
The Spaniard obviously provides the guile in the attack which perfectly compliments Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez, but he has not been able to provide goals and assists unlike earlier in his career.
Moreover, there has been the focus to deliver more of the ball towards the left-wing since Sanchez’s arrival, and Mourinho needs to have tactics sorted out for the weekend FA Cup semi-final versus Spurs.
