According to the The42, Manchester United are keen on Tottenham Hotspur’s Victor Wanyama, although the Kenyan midfielder is keen on a new improved deal with Spurs.
United could be losing three midfielders this summer, with Michael Carrick retiring, Marouane Fellaini out of contract in the coming months and Ander Herrera linked with a move to the Serie A. Even Paul Pogba has been linked with a move to Real Madrid, so manager Jose Mourinho needs replacements.
Wanyama is a player high on his wishlist, with the £70k-per-week star boasting all the defensive attributes he’s been desperate for. The 26-year-old has spent much of the season sidelined with injury, but his debut season with Spurs saw him average a tackle or interception every 23 minutes in the Premier League.
As a result, United have entered the race for his signature, but they have been met with a stumbling block – Liverpool. The Reds are keen on Wanyama too, as they’re looking to replace Emre Can who looks on his way out at the end of the season.
The two sides look set to go head-to-head for Wanyama when the campaign comes to a close, but the midfielder hasn’t made any suggestion that he’s keen to leave Spurs. The Mirror say he’s hoping for a new deal with Tottenham.
If United can blow Spurs’ contract offer out of the water, they might have a chance of landing his signature.
