Belgium international Marouane Fellaini will reportedly turn down a fresh contract at Manchester United, according to the reliable Gianluca Di Marzio. The midfielder’s current deal is due to expire in June and he has previously rebuffed a couple of contract offers from United during the 2017/18 campaign.
Earlier last month, Fellaini suggested that the United hierarchy could bow to his wage demands with Jose Mourinho keen on keeping hold of his services but there has been very little since to suggest that the Belgian will prolong his stay.
As such, AC Milan sporting director Massimiliano Mirabelli has told Di Marzio that the 30-year-old midfielder won’t be extending his contract at Old Trafford and the Rossoneri now appear optimistic of securing the Belgian on a free transfer.
The San Siro outfit are reported to have tabled a three-year contract worth £100,000 a week for Fellaini and this pretty much is in line with his demands at United. Moreover, the Belgian would be due a significant signing-on fee and this appears likely to push him for a new challenge.
United boss Mourinho has on multiple occasions talked up Fellaini’s importance in his squad but it appears that the Belgian is set to frustrate the Portuguese by pursuing an exit against his wishes. Despite this, the news is sure to delight the majority of the United faithful who have largely been against the midfielder’s extension.
