12 goals in 15 games – Manchester United identify £35.5m solution to attacking woes

According to Foot Mercato, Manchester United are one of five Premier League clubs monitoring the progress of FC Porto striker Moussa Marga, and could trigger his £35.5m release clause this month as a result.

The 26-year-old, who joined Porto from Maritimo for £3.4m in 2016, has been in fantastic form this season, boasting 12 goals in 15 league games. Such form has led to Tottenham and Chelsea showing a real interest, while Brighton & hove Albion and Leicester City have also been linked.

Marega, a Malian international, is contracted with Porto until 2020, meaning the Portuguese club are in a strong negotiating position unless the player requests to leave. After coming straight into the first-team following a season-long loan away in 2016/17, it doesn’t appear the forward is considering his future yet.

He’s a regular in the starting lineup, and has been in fantastic form this season. Not to mention, Marega stands a chance of winning a league title – with Porto leading Sporting by two points atop of the Primeira Liga. However, United do have a problem with scoring goals of late which could see them step up their alleged interest.

Jose Mourinho’s side have made hard work of finishing chances this season, something the Manchester United manager has said publicly, so movements could be made if they feel the Mali striker has something they’re currently lacking in the squad.
