If reports in the media are anything to go by then Ashley Young is expected to leave Manchester United in the summer.
According to ESPN, the 34-year-old Englishman is set to secure Manchester United exit upon expiry of his contract in the summer. It is mentioned that the veteran does not expect to sign a new deal at Old Trafford and is ready to talk to other clubs in January.
Transfer: Man Utd consider move to sign star with £92million clause – Face competition
Back in 2011, Young signed for Man Utd when Sir Alex Ferguson was in charge of the club. He mainly played as a winger but in the past few years, managers have mostly utilized him in the fullback positions.
Currently, our first choice right back is summer signing Aaron Wan-Bissaka and the first choice left back is former Southampton starlet Luke Shaw. In the back-up, we have got players like Williams and Dalot and therefore, Young, who is past his best, should be shown the exit door.
The ex Aston Villa star has been a great servant for Manchester United and has won all the major domestic titles with the club.
He is currently the captain of the club but now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should focus on the future and therefore, there is no need to renew the contract of the £120,000-a-week star (Mirror Sport), who will turn 35 in July.
The Red Devils should look to sign a new left back in the summer when Young departs mainly because Shaw has been injury prone. Even in the current campaign, the 24-year-old has missed 10 Premier League games due to injury.
