Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez is reportedly open to the prospect of linking up with Manchester United at the end of the current campaign. The Spain international is willing to switch clubs next summer despite signing a fresh six-year contract with Diego Simeone’s side earlier in the summer.
According to The Sun, Jose Mourinho is a big admirer of the Spaniard’s talents, and he could make a summer attempt for his services, considering how United have struggled in the injury absence of Paul Pogba.
Pogba provided the driving force from the heart of the United midfield and this allowed the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Romelu Lukaku to adrift into spaces from where they could capitalise on opposition mistakes.
While Niguez is known for his strong contribution in the holding midfield role, the Spaniard also has the tendency to push forward in the attacking department with the ability to make long-range shots being a highlight of his play.
As per The Sun, the Atleti graduate would consider an Old Trafford move next summer, provided both clubs reach an agreement over his transfer sum, should United decide against triggering his £134m release clause.
The 22-year-old has netted 23 goals in over 150 appearances for Atletico Madrid across all competitions. He also has six caps with the Spain national side.
