Manchester United sold Lukaku in the summer and desperately needed to sign a striker in the January transfer window. In the end, they opted to sign Odion Ighalo (on loan) on deadline day.

The Nigerian international has impressed the Red Devils so far and reports suggest that he is prepared to secure a permanent move to Old Trafford.

Transfer: Man Utd could move to sign £63million attacker – Face competition

According to The Sun, the 30-year-old center forward has got a contract worth £240,000-a-week with Shanghai and he is ready to take a 50% pay cut (£120,000-a-week) to seal Manchester United move on permanent basis.

Ighalo had an impressive time with Watford in which he scored forty goals in hundred appearances. So, he has got ample Premier League experience under his belt.

Last season, he was mostly out of action due to a hamstring concern and managed to score ten goals in seventeen league outings.

Since moving to Old Trafford, the African striker has so far netted four goals and provided one assist in just three starts (eight appearances – 318 minutes) under the management of Solskjaer.

As per Mirror Sport, Chinese Super League side, Shanghai Shenhua, are going to ask for a fee of £15million to sell their prized asset to Man Utd.

In all fairness, we needed to sign a proven quality goalscorer to replace Lukaku and Ighalo, who is going to turn 31 in June is mainly a short term fix.

In your view, should Man Utd lure a young striker or splash £15million to sign Odion Ighalo on permanent basis?

  1. We should be buying or upgrade young players from the academy to be nurtured. Be like the 90’s, when SAF bring in the likes of Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, Neville brothers, Butt. We are not a team that keep buying. If we want to buy, please buy cheap, quality players. Remind OGS how he manage to be in this team when he was young.
