Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio has reportedly indicated his desire to pursue a future move to Manchester United amid his reduced playing time under Zinedine Zidane. The Spain international only inked a fresh six-year contract with the La Liga holders in September.
According to Diario Gol, the 21-year-old is keen on pursuing a fresh challenge away from the Bernabeu having been offered limited opportunities. The former Mallorca graduate has started just four games during the past two months, and Zidane does not feel the youngster has the consistency to warrant a regular spot in the first XI.
As per the report, United remain Asensio’s preferred destination as he has set his sights on testing himself in the Premier League. However, Los Blancos president Florentino Perez would be reluctant to a potential sale, and United may have to pay a hefty sum in order to lure the youngster to Old Trafford.
The likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have shone in the wider position for United this term, but Mourinho could still move for a versatile attacker, who can slot into the number 10 position.
Arsenal contract rebel Mesut Ozil would undoubtedly be a huge purchase on a free in the summer, but Asensio could offer more value as he is much younger and capable of producing moments of brilliance, as showcased with a brace in the 2-2 draw versus Valencia in September.
