France international Anthony Martial has reportedly placed doubts over his future with Manchester United after turning down the latest contract offer presented by the club’s hierarchy.
The attacker started the season as a regular from the substitutes’ bench but he has however won over Jose Mourinho of late after some strong performances against Chelsea and Newcastle in the Premier League.
As such, there were indications that United are confident of extending his deal beyond the current campaign but Sky Sports News claims the attacker has now snubbed the contract offer on the table.
Despite this, the club are said to be continuing contract negotiations with the France international and there remains the hope that his deal will be renewed beyond the end of the current campaign.
Martial appeared on the fringes of Mourinho’s side at the start of the season with Alexis Sanchez getting the nod ahead of him for the left wing position after a good pre-season in the United States.
However, the Chilean’s struggles has come to Martial’s advantage with him bagging a regular role, though this has not eased the discussions over a new long-term contract with the club.
Presently, Martial’s deal expires at the end of the campaign but United have the option of prolonging his stay for another season by means of an extension clause present in his existing deal.
Based on this, United will most certainly trigger the clause by the turn of the year but the fans are sure to be left disappointed that they have allowed Martial to reach the final stages of his contract before opening discussions.
