26-year-old could be a potential signing to replace Michael Carrick: report

Manchester United are reportedly monitoring the performance of Napoli midfielder Jorginho, who has been earmarked as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick. The Italian footballer has been a key contributor in the Napoli ranks, appearing in 15 of their 18 Serie A matches this term.

According to The Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are planning for the future with Jorginho the latest player to be added to their transfer shortlist. The Brazilian-born ace has been identified as a successor to Carrick, who is likely to hang up his boots in the summer to take a backroom role under Mourinho.

The former Verona man has earned his reputation for his intrinsic passing from the centre of the park, but he has also contributed towards Napoli’s attack, with three goals and three assists across all competitions. Napoli are alleged to have received a ‘big offer’ to pursue Jorginho next month, but United could wait for the 26-year-old until the summer as he is ineligible to feature in the Champions League.

Aside from Jorginho, Borussia Dortmund pair Julian Weigl and Christian Pulisic are also on United’s radar with Mourinho facing the prospect of reshuffling his midfield options with Marouane Fellaini reluctant to extend his contract beyond June 2018.
