Spain international David de Gea is reportedly seeking a bumper contract with Manchester United after learning of the wages on disposal for the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba at the club.
According to The Sun, the 27-year-old is said to want a minimum package of at least £350,000-a-week in order to commit his future to United on a new long-term contract.
De Gea could have left Old Trafford for Real Madrid during the summer of 2015, but his £35m move could not go through after a faulty fax machine scuppered the deal on transfer deadline day.
The Spaniard continued to pen a four-year deal with the Red Devils which is only due to expire in June 2019, though United have the option of extending the contract by an additional year.
In most occasions, the club’s hierarchy would be content with such a situation, but given the never-ending link with Real Madrid, United are likely to want the Spaniard’s future sorted out before the summer.
David de Gea, who is currently on a £200,000-a-week package, has been with United since the summer of 2011. He has been named in the PFA Team of the Year on four occasions, whilst keeping over 100 clean sheets for the club in all competitions.
