Matteo Darmian is reportedly on ‘standby’ to leave Manchester United before the Serie A transfer window closes on Friday.
Earlier last month, United boss Jose Mourinho confirmed Darmian would be leaving Old Trafford after making his mind up to return to Italy.
However, the 28-year-old has since featured extensively for United amid injury concerns to Antonio Valencia and Diogo Dalot and he most recently started the league opener versus Leicester City.
Despite this, M.E.N claims that the versatile defender could head through the exit door as he is currently ‘on standby’ to seal a move before the Italian transfer deadline.
It is added that Darmian is presently residing at a hotel in Manchester’s city centre without his partner as he looks to complete the necessary formalities to return to his home nation.
Preferably, Mourinho would want the defender to stay until one of Dalot or Valencia make the playing field but Darmian appears intent on making the switch in order to secure regular gametime.
Should a deal materialise, Ashley Young may slot into the right side of the backline for this weekend’s Premier League outing at Brighton & Hove Albion.
