€1Billion Star Wants Move — Huge Boost for Mourinho

Gareth Bale Real Madrid

Manchester United could reportedly get their hands on Gareth Bale this summer after he told fellow teammate Luka Modric of his desire to leave Real Madrid. The Wales international endured an injury-hit campaign with the European champions last term, and managed just 27 appearances last term.

Spanish outlet Don Balon claims that United are favourites to pursue the Welshman after he sent a Whatsapp message to Modric highlighting his intention to move elsewhere.

League rivals Chelsea have recently been credited with an interest in the 28-year-old forward but Don Balon cite that the Red Devils are leading the pursuit of the three-time Champions League winner.

United boss Jose Mourinho is said to be a huge fan of Bale, and it is suggested that the Red Devils would have no difficulties matching his valuation this summer.

Bale had been the first-choice for Real Madrid during his first three seasons at the Bernabeu, but last year was different after he found himself benched in place of Isco in the Champions League final against Juventus.

The European champions are hot on the trail of Monaco’s Kylian Mbappe this summer, and they are hoping to cash in on Bale in order to facilitate the Frenchman’s transfer to Madrid.

United have been reluctant to pay the £49m fee to sign Inter Milan’s Ivan Perisic, and it will be interesting to see whether Mourinho is prepared to splash a potential club-record fee to pursue one of his favourites.
