3-4-1-2: How Manchester United could lineup with Pogba, Rojo and Ibrahimovic

Manchester United have received a timely boost ahead of this weekend’s Newcastle United game with the likes of Paul Pogba, Marcos Rojo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic set to make the matchday squad. While the trio are unlikely to make their comebacks from the starting lineup, we look into how they could feature together later on in the campaign.

Formation: 3-4-1-2

Lineup:

Regardless of changes elsewhere, David de Gea’s position is a certainty in goal for United. Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have flourished in the right wing-back position and left wing-back positions, and they could remain unchanged with the latter having revived his flagging career to make an England comeback as well. Phil Jones is likely to keep his position whenever fit, and he could feature alongside Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo on either side to form a three-man central defence.

With Pogba fit, he could is assured of a central midfield role alongside Nemanja Matic, who is likely to play behind the France international. Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard have all featured in the support striker this term, but we are going with the ambitious pick of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has indeed been allotted the number 10 shirt. Up front, we could have Marcus Rashford and Romelu Lukaku playing together with Mourinho likely to switch between the former and Anthony Martial depending on the nature of the gam.

Predicted lineup: David de Gea, Eric Bailly, Phil Jones, Marcos Rojo, Antonio Valencia, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Ashley Young, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Marcos Rashford, Romelu Lukaku
