Germany international Mesut Ozil has reportedly set his sights on a reunion with Manchester United coach Jose Mourinho, come the end of the season. The World Cup winner has just over six months left on his Arsenal contract, and he is widely expected to leave the north London club in the summer.
According to The Mail, the World Cup winner is prepared to work under Jose Mourinho once more despite being the subject of interest from Barcelona. The 29-year-old is free to discuss terms with overseas clubs in the New Year, but he could reportedly stick with the Gunners until the summer in order to pursue a Bosman move to Old Trafford.
Talks between Arsenal and Ozil have been ongoing since the backend of last season, and The Mail claims that the German has already turned down a £235,000-a-week offer with a view to receiving a package of at least £300,000 from his next big contract. According to Daily Star, Gunners would demand 30 million pounds if Ozil is sold in the winter window.
Ozil, who joined the Gunners from Real Madrid for £42.5m in 2013, has had his critics over the years, with his inability to track back being one of his frailties. However, his defensive side of the game has improved in recent weeks, probably coinciding with the conclusion of his contract, and he would undoubtedly be a steal on a free next season.
Mourinho has chopped and changed his options in the number 10 position this term with the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata getting opportunities, and Ozil could slot in seamlessly while providing through balls for the Rashford’s and Martial’s who could make the most from the German’s link-up play.
