£36.4m Barcelona midfielder could push for Manchester United transfer

Manchester United will reportedly have the opportunity to pursue the services of Sergi Roberto who is seemingly considering his future at Barcelona. The Catalan giants reached an agreement to sign Paulinho from Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande earlier today, and this could pave way for Roberto’s exit from the Camp Nou.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the 25-year-old is planning for a potential Barcelona exit with the arrival of Paulinho likely to restrict his chances further more in the central midfield department. The Spain international was primarily used as a right-sided defender during the previous campaign, but summer recruit Nelson Semedo appears to have got Ernesto Valverde’s backing to become the first-choice in the position.

Barca boss Valverde has recently stressed that Roberto is a very useful member of his squad, but their recent summer activity appears to have got the Spaniard thinking over his future. The versatile midfielder currently has a £36.4m release clause in his contract and Mundo Deportivo claims that the Red Devils will battle it out with the likes of Chelsea, Juventus and AC Milan for his services.

Roberto has managed 154 appearances across all competitions for Barcelona since making his first team debut in the 2010-11 season.
