Manchester United will take on Serie A outfit Sampdoria their final pre-season game on Wednesday night before travelling to Macedonia for the much-anticipated European Super Cup clash against Real Madrid next week. David de Gea, Antonio Valencia, and Jesse Lingard did not make the squad for the trip to Oslo, but they could all feature in Dublin tonight with Jose Mourinho looking to find the right mix ahead of United’s first competitive game against Real Madrid.
Formation: 4-3-3
Lineup:
David de Gea is expected to start in goal against Sampdoria after he missed out on the previous pre-season friendly against Valerenga. The defence could see the return of Antonio Valencia at right-back with Daley Blind on the opposite end. Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are suspended for two European games including the Super Cup clash against Los Blancos, and Mourinho will probably offer Victor Lindelof and Chris Smalling some time together.
Marouane Fellaini bagged the opener in the 3-0 win over Valerenga, and he could start ahead of summer signing Nemanja Matic, who will be making his unofficial United debut. The Belgian could be accompanied by Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba at the heart of the midfield with Ander Herrera likely to start from the bench as he continues his recent comeback from a rib problem.
Jesse Lingard started in all of United’s pre-season friendlies in their US tour before he was left out against Valerenga with a muscle fatigue. The Englishman has been United’s best player during their preparation period, and he could take up his place on the right side of the attack. Marcus Rashford started in the middle of a front three last time around, but he could be drifted to the left-hand side with Romelu Lukaku likely to lead the line.
