£400,000-a-week midfielder offered to Manchester United – Decision made

Juventus' Aaron Ramsey vs SPAL

Manchester United have been linked with a number of quality midfielders but so far, they have not been able to improve things in the center in the summer transfer window.

Lately, transfer expert, Ian McGarry has revealed that a proven Premier League star in the form of Aaron Ramsey was offered in a swap deal. However, the Red Devils made their decision to turn the offer down.

Transfer: Man United ready to agree £83.2million contract with OT star – Report

McGarry told the Transfer Window Podcast:

“Juventus have during the summer proposed a swap deal for Nemanja Matic which would have seen Aaron Ramsey going the other way for United. It was rejected by the Manchester club.”

Ramsey was a superstar at Arsenal for a long time under the management of legendary boss Arsene Wenger. In 2019, he opted to join Italian giants, Juventus, on a free transfer by agreeing a mammoth deal worth £400,000-a-week (BBC).

Unfortunately, for Bianconeri, he has mainly been out of the starting XI due to inconsistent performances and also due to consistent injury concerns (Transfermarkt). In the 2019-20 season under Maurizio Sarri, the Welsh international only started 14 games in the Serie A. On the other hand, last season, under Andrea Pirlo, the 67-capped midfielder started just 11 games in the league.

So, the 30-year-old needs to leave the Old Lady for regular first-team football. Man Utd made the right decision to reject the swap offer for Matic, who is currently the only specialist defensive midfielder at the club.

Have your say – Who should Man Utd sign to improve the midfield department?
