Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has reportedly earmarked Danny Rose as the prime option to bolster the left side of the defence during the summer. The Portuguese tactician is planning to revamp the options in the full-back positions with Daley Blind, Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian supposedly heading through the exit door.
The £50million-rated defender had been linked with a possible move to Old Trafford during the previous summer transfer window but a deal failed to materialise as he was recuperating from a long-term knee injury.
Since then, the Englishman has dropped down the pecking order at Spurs owing to his public criticism over the club’s transfer policy as well as the competition brought forward by Ben Davies.
According to The Guardian, United are planning to upgrade the personnel on either side of the central defence and Rose has been earmarked as one of Jose Mourinho’s leading transfer targets.
Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young have done a credible job in the right and left-back positions respectively but there still remains the need for fresh faces as they approach the final stages of their careers.
Moreover, neither are natural full-backs by trade, and Valencia, in particular, has become a lesser force whilst thrusting forward unlike in previous seasons with Manchester United.
