Manchester United have been linked with Dutch international and Ajax sensation Matthijs de Ligt for quite some time and the latest reports seem very positive for the Red Devils.
According to The Telegraph, the 19-year-old star had been widely expected to move to Barcelona but the Catalan giants fear that they could lose out on luring him.
The British outlet have mentioned that the idea of becoming the poster boy of Manchester United’s rebuild is appealing to the Eredivisie defender, who is interested in signing for the Old Trafford club.
Transfer: £70million star prepared to agree Man United move
The Red Devils leaked goals on regular basis in the recently concluded Premier League season and it is evident that they desperately need to sign a world class center half, who would be able to command the entire back-line.
De Ligt is just a teenager but he sure is world class. He has captained Ajax to the Dutch league and cup titles and almost led them to the Champions League final as well.
Therefore, without doubt, he would be a quality capture for United if Solskjaer can somehow get his signing done.
The Ajax star is surely not going to come for cheap. As per reports, he is valued (Mirror Sport) at £75million, which is currently the record fee for a defender that Liverpool paid to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in January 2018 (The Guardian).
Manchester United will not be taking part in the next season’s Champions League, so, I think it will be a massive achievement if they can lure a wanted player like De Ligt.
We shall see how the transfer saga unfolds in the coming weeks.
Grab this one, as well as Raphaël Varane. Now THAT’S a centre back pairing to be reckoned with. Add Luke Shaw or Sessegnon on one side, Dalot or Wan-Bissaka on the other and (the much more releaved) De Gea in goal and things start to look safe at the back.
It@s time the Glazers really gave something back to the long-suffering supporters and opened their wallets. That defence would be an absolute dream Greg, but we also need midfield reinforcement – Declan Rice or Ndombele and Fernandes. Pogba and Lukaku must surely be on their way, so another front man is also needed. I’d opt for Pepe, as he would give us wide right strength and goals a plenty.
