Man Utd emerge favourites to sign £90,000-a-week star midfielder: report

Manchester United have surprisingly emerged as the front-runners to sign Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere. The England international’s contract is due to expire in five months’ time, and he could potentially leave the Emirates on a Bosman in the summer.

Wilshere, 26, has had his fair share of injury concerns over the past few seasons, but he has managed to break into the Gunners’ setup this season with performances which have caught the eye of Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate.

In a report covered by The Star, United have been deemed as possible favourites to sign the £90,000-a-week player as they seek to find a replacement for Michael Carrick at the end of the campaign.

“Manchester United could make a shock swoop for the Arsenal midfielder as a long-term successor for Michael Carrick in the centre of the park at Old Trafford,” BetStars spokesman Ian Marmion told the source.

Jose Mourinho is likely to find himself in a compulsion to bolster the midfield during the summer with Carrick set to retire from the game whilst Marouane Fellaini appears on his way to Turkey with Besiktas on a free.

Meanwhile, Ander Herrera has also been linked with a potential switch to AC Milan, and his departure would leave United with just two senior midfielders in Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic alongside promising prospect Scott McTominay.
