Agent Martin Schoots has admitted the rumours surrounding his client Christian Eriksen are “always a compliment”, with the Tottenham Hotspur attacking-midfielder being linked with Manchester United, Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Eriksen, who was signed from Ajax in 2013, has become one of the best players in the Premier League, making over 200 appearances in all competitions for Spurs.
He’s made more than 70 appearances for the Danish national team at the age of 26 and now finds his future being speculated about due to his fine form this season. Eriksen has scored and created 14 goals in 27 Premier League games, with third-placed Tottenham 10 points clear of fifth-placed Arsenal in the table.
United were linked with the Dane before he made the switch to Tottenham, but Schoots is flattered that Real Madrid and Barcelona’s hats are being thrown into the ring. He stressed that Eriksen won’t make a public declaration, instead doing his talking on the pitch.
“I don’t comment on rumours much. But when clubs like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United are mentioned, it’s always a compliment,” Schoots said to Danish publication BT.
“Since Christian was 14 years old, big clubs have shown interest. The first were Chelsea, AC Milan and Barcelona. Since then there has been no transfer window without any offer or interest. It is not all clubs known by the press. Christian is not a guy who wants to talk too much. He talks with his feet.”
With Manchester United having Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard, Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata as attacking options, however, they might withdraw their interest in the £75,000-a-week star. Manager Jose Mourinho has stated that he plans to focus more on strengthening the midfield.
