Why Alexis Sanchez has not travelled with Man United for pre-season

Manchester United star Alexis Sanchez has been forced to miss the club’s pre-season tour of the United States pre-season amid visa issues.

The Chilean  was a surprise omission from the travelling squad earlier this week and it has now been confirmed that the problem is visa-related rather than concerns regarding his fitness.

According to BBC Sport, the 29-year-old has not been granted a visa after he was found guilty of tax fraud in Spain, for which he accepted a 16-month suspended jail sentence in February.

There is still a special waiver scheme which would allow Sanchez to participate in the United States but for now, the Chilean has not found success in pushing through a temporary work permit.

Sanchez produced a mixed bag of performances for United during the back end of last season after he struggled to adapt to the club’s style of play and missing most of pre-season would undoubtedly hamper him once more.

At present, there is some hope that Sanchez could secure a visa for the friendlies in the United States or else, he may have significantly lesser match practice compared to his teammates with just one more game at Bayern Munich prior to the league opener.
