It has been a tough adaptation period for Ruben Amorim as the new Man Utd manager. The Portuguese tactician, despite beating Manchester City in dramatic fashion in a win that would have endeared himself to the Red Devils fans, has failed to build on that victory since.
The truth is that most people would have envisioned this difficulty in adaptation to life under the new boss.

After all, the ex-Sporting CP manager came to Old Trafford with a formation and a tactical style so different to what Erik ten Hag was using.
Having hardly ever played with a back-three formation in the recent past, it is quite difficult to get adapted to it in such a short space of time, especially in the absence of a conventional pre-season. Thus, Man Utd’s struggles come as no surprise.
Now, as per Give Me Sport, Ruben Amorim is urging the Man Utd hierarchy to agree a deal with Harry Maguire to trigger his extension at the club by a further 12 months, considering him important to his plans going forward.
It is worth noting here that the £19,000 a week star (£9.8million a year) was almost out of the door under Erik ten Hag and the Dutch coach was probably willing to move him on but that said, circumstances have changed.
Despite having signed two center-backs this summer, the Englishman can still be of use.
The addition of an extra center-back to the formation means that Amorim now needs extra options in the squad in terms of both starters and backups.
Playing in a back three for Man Utd is also ideal to bring out the better qualities in Harry Maguire, who did well in the system for England under Southgate.
On the right terms, extending the former captain’s contract is a no-brainer. He can still be of excellent use to the squad in this new system and let’s wait and see if the Red Devils wrap up a contract extension for him in the months to come.
