Manchester United attacker Anthony Martial feels Chelsea will begin on the front foot in Sunday’s Premier League clash, although he is backing his side to claim all three points.
The France international was recently voted as United’s Player of the Month for the second successive time, and he has now set his sights on the crunch game versus Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Speaking to MUTV, Martial admitted that United face a stiff challenge in west London, but he is nevertheless targeting three points which would boost the club’s chances of lifting the Premier League title.
He said: “They [Chelsea] haven’t started as well as they did last year, but Chelsea is a big team and they’ll certainly try to beat us. Both clubs are really great teams so it’ll certainly be a difficult match, but the most important thing is that we try to come away with a victory at the end of the day.”
United have won just once in 15 previous meetings with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, but Jose Mourinho’s men could take advantage of the Blues’ defensive frailties which were evident during the 3-0 Champions League thumping at AS Roma on Tuesday night.
Manchester United are currently positioned second on the Premier League table with 23 points, five adrift of arch-rivals and table toppers Manchester City. Pep Guardiola’s side face off against Arsenal in Sunday’s afternoon kickoff from the Etihad Stadium.
