France international Anthony Martial will be staying put at Manchester United his summer, his cousin Jemael has revealed. The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with an Old Trafford exit with the likes of Inter Milan, Wolfsburg and Tottenham Hotspur in the hunt for his services.
Jose Mourinho has previously clarified that Martial remains a key player in his ranks, and Jemael has now put an end to the speculation by citing that the forward won’t leave United – even on a temporary basis.
“For Manchester United, Anthony leaving is not an option, even on loan. They rely on him,” he wrote on Twitter h/t Metro, which was later deleted. Martial has impressed as a regular substitute since pre-season, and he recently popped up with the third goal in the 4-0 mauling of West Ham United.
Currently, the likes of Marcus Rashford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan have cemented their positions in the wider positions, but a dip in form for either could encourage Martial’s chances of sealing a regular starting spot. Meanwhile, Mourinho still appears in the search for a fourth summer signing with Arsenal’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain emerging as the latest candidate.
Though the season has just begun, Mourinho will be expectant of his side to provide a strong performance during this weekend’s trip to South Wales to face Swansea City.
