Antoine Griezmann could make a surprise switch to Manchester United

Manchester United have reportedly been offered a boost in the pursuit of long-term target Antoine Griezmann. The France international is currently assessing his future at Atletico Madrid amid the uncertainty over the future of goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

According to Don Balon, United could re-enter the fray to sign the 26-year-old, who is considering a shock U-turn on his decision to stay at Atleti. Griezmann was initially tipped to join United early on in the transfer window, but he opted to stay put at Atleti for another season after they failed to have their transfer embargo overturned at the Court of Arbitration of Sport.

The Spanish outlet claims Griezmann is disappointed with the club’s movement in the transfer window with a winter deal for Diego Costa looking to have reached a dead-end. Meanwhile, Oblak is attracting interest from French heavyweights Paris Saint-Germain, who are prepared to trigger the £86m release clause in his contract.

Should Oblak make way, Griezmann is expected to seriously mull over his position with both Manchester United and Barcelona keeping tabs on his services. Ernesto Valverde’s side have already made contact with the player’s representative, and any United deal could be dependent on Griezmann turning down a move to Atleti’s fierce league rivals.

Despite this, United are looking in good shape for the new league season with Romelu Lukaku having significantly strengthened the frontline following his £75m switch from Everton earlier last month.
