Atletico Madrid superstar Antoine Griezmann is reportedly dissatisfied with his stay at Wanda Metropolitano despite signing an improved contract earlier this summer. The France international was heavily tipped to join Manchester United at the end of the previous campaign, but he decided to surprisingly extend his Atleti deal after their transfer ban was upheld.
As a result, his minimum release clause was doubled to €200m in order to ward off any interest during the course of the summer transfer window. According to Diario Gol, the player’s valuation has now been halved to just €100m, and they could invite interest from United in the New Year with Jose Mourinho still eager to sign a world-class winger.
However, the deal may not be straightforward with Spanish giants Barcelona also looking into a move for the Frenchman. Ernesto Valverde’s side have found it hard to convince Lionel Messi to pen an extension beyond next summer, and they are hoping to sign the former Real Sociedad graduate to change the Argentine’s stance.
Griezmann currently has five years remaining on his existing deal, and a separate report from Don Balon cites that manager Diego Simeone could convince Griezmann to prolong his stay until the summer of 2020 at least.
