Arsenal have made shock contact to sign £26m-£34m Man Utd player – Report

Antony Brazil

Manchester United have been struggling in the Premier League throughout the season and yet, somehow find themselves just 90 minutes of good football away from finding themselves in the Europa League final. It gives them an outside chance of securing Champions League football for the next season.

Getting into Europe’s elite competition would be transformative for the club, considering it would put them in a much better financial position and at the same time, also ensure that they have the pull to bring in top signings to reinforce the squad and kick-start the Ruben Amorim project.

To make signings though, Man Utd might have to make sales in the summer. More than recouping the transfer fees, it is essential for the club to get some of their high-earners off the wage books and this will hold them in good stead to make potential reinforcements.

Now, as per UOL, Premier League rivals, Arsenal, have made shock contact to sign Man Utd outcast Antony.

The Brazilian winger, who has had a disastrous career at Old Trafford, is out on loan at Real Betis, where he is playing some of the best football of his career.

Should Man Utd sell Antony to Arsenal?

Since joining Betis in January, Antony has been on fire, scoring four goals and providing two assists in 13 league games and also registering 5 goal contributions in 7 Conference league games.

He is coming off one of the best weeks he has enjoyed in recent times, with a decisive goal in the 2-1 win over Fiorentina followed by a last minute winner against Espanyol in the league. Both goals were absolute screamers!

Although a fee of around £26m-£34m (UOL) should be sufficient for Arsenal to sign the player, it comes as quite a shock to see them linked with a player who has been a bonafide Premier League flop. Antony, for all his exploits in La Liga, had just one goal in 29 appearances last season. There is a reason Man Utd decided to let him leave.

Ruben Amorim has an important decision to make with regards to Antony’s future ahead of next season. The Brazilian winger has shown impressive form at Betis and if Man Utd wanted to cash in, now would be the perfect opportunity, although they would still have to take a massive cut on the amount they paid to bring him in.

However, the Portuguese tactician has a lot of reinforcements that he has to make this summer and might choose to keep Antony and see if he can build on the form that he is showing at Betis.

His time in Spain is doing him the world of good and don’t put it past him to come back to Old Trafford and fight for a place in this team. Let’s wait and see how it plays out.
