Arsenal pushing to beat Man Utd and Liverpool to signing of £50m star – Report

Ademola Lookman Nigeria

Man Utd have had a 2024/25 season to forget. Even by their relatively mediocre standards in the last decade, this season has been abysmal and the Red Devils have a lot of work to do to make sure the next campaign is better than this one.

The Red Devils have had so many problems to deal with over the course of the season, mostly as a consequence of their own doing.

Recruitment in recent seasons hasn’t played out as expected and the club need to right the wrongs soon.

Among the many positions they need to reinforce, the striker position continues to be of utmost priority. One player Man Utd are linked with is Atalanta star Ademola Lookman but as per Caught Offside, Arsenal are looking to beat the Red Devils and Liverpool to his signature.

Lookman is a hot commodity

Lookman has been excellent for the Serie A side for quite some time now. He was the hero when Atalanta lifted the Europa League title in the season before this and in the 2024/25 season, he managed to score 20 goals and provide 7 assists across all competitions.

Clubs including Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest, Juventus, Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Napoli, and Barcelona have all shown varying degrees of interest in the 27-year-old African forward. Thus, the competition is set to be tough for Man Utd.

Lookman is a lot of things and one among them is that he has the knowledge of where the back of the net is.

The 27-year-old is also versatile and can play anywhere across the front line, further adding to his appeal.

Mikel Arteta is said to be a huge fan of Lookman and wants to take him to the Emirates. However, the player would also perfectly fit into Ruben Amorim’s system at Old Trafford and the Red Devils should push hard to try and sign him.

Ultimately, it all comes down to the price tag and Atalanta are asking for £50m to sell Lookman.

This might end up prompting Man Utd to look elsewhere as the last thing they can afford is to get drawn into a bidding war. It remains to be seen how this situation develops.
