Manchester United have received more bad injury news with full-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka set for a spell on the sidelines.
The 25-year-old right-back picked up an injury in the final minutes against Brighton. He came off the bench in the 85th minute in the 3-1 defeat on Saturday (16 September).
The club have confirmed via their official website that Wan-Bissaka could be ruled out for “several weeks”.
The defender didn’t start the game due to illness. He came on the final few minutes but now could face a lengthy spell out on the sidelines.
Injury situation worsens
The full-back situation is far from ideal at the moment. With Luke Shaw out injured, Diego Dalot has been filling the void for him.
Dutch full-back, Tyrell Malacia, is also currently injured and he is unlikely to return before November.
In such a scenario, losing Wan-Bissaka is a big blow for the club, as they have few options for either full back position. Sergio Reguilon, who joined on loan in the summer, remains an along with Dalot.
The situation could force Erik ten Hag to use either Victor Lindelof or Lisando Martinez in full-back roles if needed. While it’s unclear when Raphael Varane can be back, it looks likely that it won’t be long before he returns to the starting line-up.
United will travel to Germany to face Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday (20 September). While Bayern have started the new campaign strongly, winning three of their opening four league games, United are badly struggling at the moment.
The Red Devils have picked up two wins, losing the other three league games. Ten Hag will be looking for a strong response from his team after a poor performance against Brighton.
