Jose ready to let 21-year-old midfielder leave if he signs top midfield targets: report

According to the Metro, Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay could leave the club this summer if manager Jose Mourinho secures all his transfer targets.

The Scottish international made his senior debut this season and was named Manager’s Player of the Year, but United are being linked with a number of stellar midfielders who could take McTominay’s place next season.

It’s a surprising decision as United could be really short in midfield ahead of next season. Michael Carrick is retiring to become assistant manager and Marouane Fellaini is out of contract in the coming weeks, so the Red Devils are going to be busy in the transfer market sounding out replacements.

Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian midfielder Fred and Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic are two players reportedly on their shortlist. Milinkovic-Savic was believed to have already agreed a deal to come to Old Trafford, but his future remains unconfirmed for now.

As for McTominay, it’s bad news that he may not have a future at the club. He was keeping Paul Pogba on the bench for a short period this season as a result of his form, which also helped him make his international debut for Alex McLeish’s side.

The 21-year-old rose through the youth ranks to the first-team on July 2017 and made a total of 25 appearances in all competitions for United.
