According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are ‘in discussions’ over Manchester United’s unsettled forward Anthony Martial. The 22-year-old has fallen out of favour under Jose Mourinho this season and could be on his way out of Old Trafford as a result.
Chelsea are reportedly keen on his signature and want to bring him to Stamford Bridge regardless of which manager is in charge next season. Antonio Conte is the incumbent, but his future with the Londoners is uncertain after the Blues finished fifth in the Premier League.
Martial could consider leaving United as he’s fallen behind Alexis Sanchez in the pecking order. He’s made 18 league starts, lasting a full 90 minutes on five occasions, and was named on the bench in the semi-final and final of the FA Cup. It’s clear he doesn’t have the trust of his manager.
The French international joined United from AS Monaco in 2015 and has gone on to contribute 62 goals in 135 games in all competitions. Martial has had many good moments during his time with the Manchester giants, but that could be coming to an end this summer as his deal expires in 2019.
United could be forced to cash in on the forward rather than risk losing him for free next year. According to current market, Mourinho values Martial at £80m
